About the BentstiX PinkHockey Club

BENTSTIX, Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Field Hockey Club Association Incorporated was established in February 1996 during the Mardi Gras Festival. At this time we formed the first Gay and Lesbian Field Hockey Club in the world. The Club is active mainly in the summer, when we play in a mixed (male and female) field hockey competition at Little Bay as part of the University of NSW competition. We have approximately 50 members. Each year during Mardi Gras we run the Australian PinkHockey Championship tournament.

We became very active during the Sydney Gay Games in 2002 and were responsible for field hockey being included in the program. 10 teams participated from around the world. After the success of the event we formed the Gay and Lesbian International Field Hockey Federation and have begun starting recruiting throughout Europe, North and South America. This will eventually include Asia, the Pacific and India / Pakistan.

We aim to provide opportunities for Gay and Lesbians to play competitive field hockey in an accepting and supportive environment. We also aim to foster pride in our achievements as we represent Sydney in tours and tournaments in Australia and abroad. Finally we aim to promote gay and lesbian field hockey both locally and internationally in an effort to build participation world wide.

The Bentsix Holland tour has been a phenomenal success for the Sydney club. Along with the support of major sponsors -- the Taxi Club and supporters, the Midnight Shift, Demon Leather, and the wider gay community -- Bentstix began fund raising last year to get the teams to Holland raising $24,000. Bentstix now have the honour of being the first PinkHockey world champions.

Bentstix is currently planning to play in the 2nd World Out Games in Copehagen in 2009. If you want to know more, or sign-up have a look at the bentstiX website or send them an e-mail.

Are you a field hockey player ??

We are always looking for new players. It is not important whether you are a good hockey player or just a beginner. Enjoyment is the most important requirement. What we are looking for hockey players who want to be a part of a team. Most of the Aussie PinkHockey players joined the BentstiX hockey club and play in one of there teams, but there are also players who are active in a regular hockey club and play at there one level and join the BentstiX during practises, get togethers and nights out. So as long you are a field hockey player or a fan of the game you are more than welcome to join. It’s always nice to play hockey with like minded people. What's more, is that it is always nice to have a some more hockey friends especially when they live in different parts of the world.

There are now men’s teams in Australia, The Netherlands en Argentina en girl’s teams in Australia, Germany, The Netherlands and England. We think it is possible to increase this number, So if you do not know any other field hockey players do not worry as we will attempt to set up composite teams. PinkHockey now counts among its member’s players from England, Germany, Switzerland, The Netherlands, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Scotland, USA, Belgium, Kenya, Romania and Argentina.

Everyone is welcome to join PinkHockey - gay, lesbian, bisexual, straight makes no difference to us. The colour of your skin, hair or eyes as well as your religion, beliefs, race, age, gender or the way you want to dress or choose to live are not an issue, as long you are a field hockey player or a fan of the game you are more than welcome to join.

We intend to compete in several tournaments each year, like the Annual Mardy Gras tournament, with our main aim being to compete at the EuroGames, Gay Games and Outgames once in the 4 or 5 years. If you want to know more; just send us an e-mail:
